Abstract
Swyer-James syndrome consists of an abnormal radiolucency of one lung or lobe, secondary to obliterative bronchiolitis with distal air trapping. In 1953, Swyer and James first described the syndrome as unilateral pulmonary emphysema in a
six-year-old
patient.
Other causes of this finding such as an obstruction of a major bronchus by a foreign body, a large emphysematous bulla, compensatory expansion, or congenital lobar emphysema must be ruled out.
We have experienced a case of idiopathic unilateral hyperlucent lung which was confirmed by chest roentgenography, chest computer tomography, lung perfusion scan, pulmonary arteriography and bronchography in a patient.
A brief review of related literature was presented.
